so it seems everyone is kind of divided on where to go for the book release. i went to the union square barnes and noble party last year, and it was pretty enjoyable, esp. the reading, but there were a ton of kids there. this year they are going to have another reading by jim dale and the costume contest of course. i'm not sure where i should plan to go this year. it looks like books of wonder is really only just a few blocks away from b&n union square, so it would really be feasible to hit both - be at b&n for the reading or what not and then back to books of wonder for the books? is anyone else dressing up?

i'm elyse, btw :) i've been in college upstate but i just got an internship here (as i did last summer) so i am here for at least the summer. hi!

With so much going on in NYC, it seems like the most sensible plan is to get people together for some sort of early-ish dinner, and then give everyone the freedom to choose wherever they want to go to get their books afterwards. About 5 (6? More?) of us are getting our books at Books of Wonder (Mary GrandPre will be signing books the following day), and some people in the group are interested in dressing up. There's also the Harry Potter group from meetup.com -- they will be attending the Union Square B&N event for the entire night, I believe (double check with shipchan on this, as I'm not exactly sure on the details).

titti and I might also check out the Knight Bus parked in front of Scholastic that afternoon/evening. It's a bit difficult to organize a trip there, as most people do have to work that day and not everyone is local to SoHo. But if you're interested, let me know and we can maybe set something together.

That's something that Scholastic is organizing. Personally, I can only imagine the nightmare it's going to cause with one lane closed down on Broadway ^_^;; I'm sure there's more info on Scholastic's Web site. I've been trying to stop by the store to ask for more info, but I always get off work late and never make it there before it closes.

I work in Chinatown too! Well, part-time. Maybe we can get together for lunch or whatever sometime :)

that's true - broadway is crazy enough as it is. i'll have to check out the site and see what's up.

yeah, we should! i'll be working full time starting monday but if you're in chinatown we definitely could!

I've decided that instead of the Knight Bus, I'm going to go and keep midnitemaraud_r (didn't even check the spelling this time) company. We'll nap by the pool and read the book in an air conditioning house or by the beach. Spoiled? Us? Why do you ask?

Haha, Lisa has you trained to know her username spelling by memory! ;)

I'd love to spend the day at her place too, except I'm a fan of Books of Wonder (have bought other stuff from them in the past) and just couldn't pass up the chance of getting all my HP books signed by Mary GrandPre. But if y'all plan to chill in LI for the entire weekend, I might stop by at some point for some l00bage!

She keeps saying it's easy to spell but I still think Lisa is much easier. ;)

We might, I'm not sure yet. Ask the house owner.

that sounds a lot quieter, haha! i remember last year i couldn't even wait to get home to start reading - i had the book cracked by the time i got to the subway. that was distracting!

That was exactly our thought. We just want that book and sit down so we can read it, and I'd love to do the costume thing, but it's just too freaking hot.

I think I am with girlandetc. I am just going to my local B&N so I can run home and settle down to read. I'll be thinking of y'all.

I'm going to the union B&N, but I might stop by Books of Wonder (OWLS!). I'm dressy up and am so going to win that bloody contest.
